As THC levels have emerged as a benchmark for both wholesale and retail prices, many labs feel pressured by the strong financial incentives that can be the reward for giving in to potency inflation.

Ben Rosman, CEO and co-founder of PSI Labs, has consistently called for standardized regulations to fight the issue of potency inflation, which leads to more compounding issues.

"The prevailing idea that cannabis is getting stronger is a myth," Spivak-Bindorf said, adding that consumers should know there are more important qualities than THC, which could reduce the incentive for growers and manufacturers to lab shop.
